TYEN

The Palais de Tokyo, in September 2009, welcomed the greatest key people of French and
international fashion to celebrate the 30-year career at Dior of one of the most important and
influent photography artist – Tyen, who is the guest of honor of the 9th International Fashion
Photography Festival in Cannes.
During his atypical career, this artist succeeded in conciliating two passions: makeup – which he
made a real artistic discipline – and fashion. Two passions in the service of one and only love:
photography.
His eye was exercised by references he calls his masters, such as Richard Avedon, Irving Penn,
Hiro and Bill King, whom he worked with as a makeup artist before becoming a photographer
himself in 1984.
From then on, Tyen distinguishes himself through the richness of a fantastic imaginary, in the
literal sense. He obviously plays with colors, but also sets, tones, accessories, textures, materials
that are like flavors which feed a baroque and sensual universe he describes as fairy-like.
And through his career, Tyen caught the most gorgeous fairies of fashion and glamour:
Carla Bruni, Natalie Portman, Monica Bellucci, Iman, Milla Jovovich, Emmanuelle Beart,
Laetitia Casta, Naomi Campbell, Karen Mulder, Helena Christensen, Kristina Semenovskaia,
Karlie Kloss…
